It’s that time of year again - the days are getting shorter; Halloween is just around the corner and the clocks will change before you know it! We adore this time of year for all the reasons listed in our blog last month, and because it marks the return of top tier jump racing, shooting and other iconic country pursuits. If you love watching the brave horses and their jockeys tackle National Hunt fences at speed, you’ll be as excited as we are about to see the return of racing at Cheltenham later this month.
We’re taking the trade stand to Cheltenham Racecourse for the Showcase, which takes place on Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th of October, and then again for the November Meeting from Friday the 17th to Sunday the 19th of November. Cheltenham has such a special place in our hearts, offering superb National Hunt racing throughout the winter and then the build-up to the Festival in the spring. If you’re attending one (or, if you’re lucky, both!) of these meetings, you’re probably planning your outfit for the day. Tweed and Cheltenham go together like gin and tonic, and we’re thrilled to be taking our new tweed collection there for the very first time. Here’s our autumn winter 2023 race day edit to help ensure your outfit is a winner - even if you’re not picking the best horses on the day…
Tweed and ruffles!
If you’re keen to turn heads when you arrive at the racecourse, why not don one of our beautiful, ruffled shirts? We have several styles to choose from, but they are all incredibly flattering and guaranteed to elevate your outfit in the style stakes! Whether you choose to wear a pair of slim leg jeans and smart paddock boots or a slinky tweed skirt and knee length country-inspired suede or leather boots, this shirt will work perfectly with them. We love pairing our ruffled shirts with the Charlotte Vintage Tweed Coat for the perfect any-weather race day look - if the sun comes out and you’re getting warm, the shirt will let you breathe. If the wind is blowing through Prestbury Park, just keep the coat buttoned and add a cosy wrap!
Double-breasted jackets
Do you prefer to style a shorter, but still smart, jacket for smart days out? We have lots of gorgeous jackets that are perfect for a day at the races! Our new double-breasted Richmond and Claudia jackets are simply divine, with gleaming gold buttons and a range of colours to choose from. We have to say we have everything crossed that someone will choose to style the purple Claudia for Cheltenham this year, as we can’t wait to see this all dressed up ready for days out. Our double-breasted jackets are a great choice as you can wear comfortable, relaxed layers underneath and the bold tailoring will still carry the look and ensure you’re smart enough for every enclosure.
Hats and layers
The weather can vary so much for the first Cheltenham meeting of the year, so it’s worth being ready for anything when you’re planning your outfit. We adore a fur-trimmed wrap and always have a coordinating wrap on hand for autumn and winter race meetings. They are such an elegant addition to your outfit and really do make a difference when the temperatures dip or the wind has a bite to it. A fun way to ensure you look pulled together is to coordinate your wrap with a colour that’s threaded into your tweed, if you’re wearing one, and with a country-inspired fedora or fascinator. Headwear isn’t mandated at Jockey Club racecourses, but plenty of women choose to add a hat or fascinator to add some elegance and flair to their outfit! Check out our new season fur wraps on the website now and don’t forget to tag us into your race day photos.
