Spring in the UK is nothing if not unpredictable. Rain, frost, sun, snow, mud and then the most glorious, blue skies that make you forget about any other weather. This year’s Cheltenham Festival was a perfect example, with one morning delivering a dusting of snow on the course, yet by time racing kicked off in the afternoon, the sun was shining.

Dressing for this season is all about embracing versatility, layering up and leaning into pieces that transition seamlessly from chilly mornings to brighter afternoons. But if there’s one thing we can count on, it’s that springtime in Britain has a beauty that’s unlike anywhere else. The hedgerows come into bud in vivid green, trees are a mass of pink and white blossom and daffodils and tulips paint the countryside and towns in joyful colour. It’s a season that can feel like a breath of fresh air after the cold and dark of winter, and our wardrobes should reflect that. Here are some of our favourite spring/summer 2025 trends and some tips for staying stylish and comfortable until the warmer weather sets in…

Slip into versatile blouses

Blouses in all styles, whether they’re structured, ruffled or boho, are another must-have this season. A little smarter than a tee, you can choose long sleeves if you’re worried about the cold, and they offer chance to dip your toe into new season colours. The best spring blouses are those that can be layered under knitwear or jackets, meaning you don't have to sacrifice elegance even when juggling dressing for changeable temperatures.

Update neutrals with pale pink

Spring 2025 is bringing fresh twists on timeless trends to the fore. Powder pink is making a strong comeback, a shade that pairs beautifully with blue skies, bright green buds and the gentle pink and white of spring blossom. It’s also the perfect partner to the Pantone colour of the year, mocha mousse, helping you elevate and update neutrals for spring.

Layering done right

The key to staying comfortable all day long in spring is layering. Start with a base, perhaps a soft, organic cotton tee or a lightweight knit, and build from there. For days with rain in the forecast then a structured jacket or classic trench is ideal. When the temperatures drop a little lower, tweeds are perfect… not least this year, when plaids and tweeds are making a comeback on the runway, so you’ll be perfect on-trend too. For extra versatility, a stylish gilet or wrap offers warmth without bulk, and you can remove them as the day warms up - maybe switching them out for sunglasses if you’re lucky!

Socks have a spring fashion moment

Meanwhile, statement socks are also having a moment -  fun colours, bold patterns and motifs - this is a chance to coordinate from your head to your toes or mix it up. Worn with skirts, tailored trousers or cropped jeans, they offer a fun and colourful way to elevate an outfit while keeping your feet and lower legs warm on cooler days.

Footwear for puddles

Speaking of keeping warm, choosing the right footwear is essential in British spring. If you’d love to wear suede loafers or canvas trainers keep an eagle eye on the forecast, as a spring shower could ruin them. We recommend picking leather trainers or loafers, or treated ankle boots, and if it’s rainy and you’re planning a countryside walk then a classic welly is the way to go. Why have wet feet if you don’t need to?

That old saying that ‘April showers bring May flowers’ is so true, and there’s no better inspiration for your wardrobe than the beauty of spring itself. Whether you’re layering up for a crisp country walk, heading for lunch with the girls to plan summer fun or dressing for a spring day at the races, embrace the colours, textures and lightness of the season. And with a few carefully chosen pieces, you can be stylish and ready for whatever the British weather brings…
